Our Solidarity for Earthquake in Lombok

After the 6.4 Richter Scale earthquake hit Lombok on 29 July 2018, the Diocese of Denpasar has deployed its emergency response team to assist the people affected by the earthquake. A rapid need assessment was immediately done to determine type of interventions and services will be provided for the affected people. The Diocese of Denpasar Emergency Response Team (TTD-KD) is focusing their work in Torean sub village of Loloan village, North Lombok which was severely impacted. In their appeal to KARINA, the diocese emergency response team plans to provide hygiene kits for 188 households.

KARINA is providing technical accompaniment for the diocesan emergency response team in conducting rapid need assessment, establishing coordination with Catholic church network and planning for the next phase response. KARINA deploys 6 additional persons to the ground in the coming week, comprising of 2 staffs and 4 volunteers of diocese network in Indonesia. These additional hands will support TTD-KD in the distribution of 188 hygiene kits, monitoring, a follow-up assessment for the recent 7 Richter Scale earthquake (5/8) and preparing a media center in Mataram Parish.

A massive, solid and timely action of solidarity is very well demonstrated on the ground by the Catholic church network within the Diocese of Denpasar. The St. Mary Immaculate Parish, together with the Interfaith Forum of West Nusa Tenggara Province, have distributed rice in 7 locations in West and East Lombok. As for medical assistance, PERDHAKI deployed 3 medical doctors to assist St. Antonius Hospital in Ampenan. Health services center is available in St. Mary Immaculate Secretariat building in Mataram and is opened for public to access. Diocese of Malang came to join the solidarity act by providing 150 tents, 600 sleeping mats, toiletries, etc.

Other assistance still urgently needed by the affected people are hygiene kits, blankets, mattress, tarpaulins, mosquito repellants, medicated oil, and mosquito nets. Salam #BelarasaKita! ●
